Skill Lab

Advanced Lab

Frog kick, back kick, helicopter turns, and a kit that works with you. Move like you mean it, stop when you want to.

Duration
2-3 days
Group
Max 4 divers
Where
Šibenik, Brač and Tisno
A diver swimming over gorgonians in blue water

Two things hold most divers back once their buoyancy is steady: how they move, and what they carry. Flutter kicking works until you are near a silty bottom, a wreck or another diver, so we replace it with kicks that push water backwards instead of down. Then we go through your kit piece by piece: dangling gauges, hoses routed by accident, lead that pulls you face down. Arrive with your kit, leave with a system.

Who it's for

  • You leave a silt cloud behind you, and stopping means grabbing something.
  • Your kit came together piece by piece, and it shows.
  • Your SMB deployment is a hope, not a method.
  • One day you want to dive wrecks or caves without wiping out the visibility.

What you'll work on

  1. 01Frog kick and modified frog kick, and when to use which
  2. 02Back kick: stopping, holding position, backing out
  3. 03Helicopter turns on the spot, and kicking in trim so your depth never changes
  4. 04Hose routing, weight distribution and streamlining: nothing hanging, nothing dragging
  5. 05SMB deployment from neutral buoyancy, without rising with it

Before you come

  • Any recreational certification.
  • Steady buoyancy helps. If you are not there yet, start with the Buoyancy & Trim Lab.
  • Bring your own kit. Split fins make back kick nearly impossible, so bring stiff blade fins if you have them.

What's included

  • Coaching in the water with an SDI instructor
  • Underwater video, reviewed together afterwards
  • A land session on your own kit
  • A short list of what to practise next
